Carlo Crivelli was an Italian Renaissance painter born in Venice around 1430 to a family of painters. He spent his early years studying in Padua and Venice. Crivelli was a painter of marked individuality and astounding attention to detail. His use of "trompe l'oeil," often compared to painters of the Northern Renaissance and few Italian artists seem to have worked with more uniformity of purpose.
