Andy Warhol was the pre-eminent master of Pop Art, the Anglo-American visual arts movement that began in the 1950’s and fully blossomed in the 1960’s. Here we see Warhol’s psychedelic treatment of an official portrait of Mao Zedong, ubiquitous in China but hardly rare on American college campuses of the early seventies.
