Toulouse-born Art Deco master Louis Icart had some use for the “opticality” shunned by Post-Impressionists, whether Cubists, Abstract or Expressionists, and he considered himself apart from the contemporary art which was deliberately rebelling against realism. Here we see a very Impressionist canvas, informed by the artist’s interest in the female form.
