Victorian painter Richard Dadd specialized in paintings of the occult, magic, and Orientalist themes, creating many while a patient at a London mental hospital. Dadd showed early artistic promise and was educated at the Royal Academy. Here we see the biblical scene of King David having mercy on his erstwhile mentor, Saul, against the wishes of Yahweh.
