Six Tuscan Poets, Dante, Petrarch, Guido Cavalcanti, Boccaccio, Cino da Pistoia, c.1544, Oil on Canvas

Giorgio Vasari was born in Florence and at a very young age became the pupil of Guglielmo de Marcillat. However, his decisive training came when he enjoyed the friendship and patronage of the Medici family, apprenticing within the circle of Andrea del Sarto, and became a lifelong admirer of Michelangelo. As an artist, Vasari was both studious and prolific.
