Juseppe (Jose) Leonardo was an esteemed battle painter at the court of Philip IV and was a tragic figure of Spanish art who suffered from alcoholism and eventually dying of its ravages in middle age. Leonardo chronicled Catholic triumphs in the Thirty Years’ War, this work being a prime example of his immense skills.
