Jean-Marc Nattier was a French Academic painter known for his allegorical portraits of female courtiers and was greatly influenced by the legendary Peter Paul Rubens. Here, Nattier captured the loveliness of fourteen-year-old Renee de Carbonnel de Canisy is a superb Rococo depiction that uses a graceful pose, repetition of flowers and his enormous talent to conjure the essence of a bright and delicate young maiden.
