Maurice Quentin de La Tour was a Rococo painter who trained under Flemish artist Jacques Spoede and ultimately becoming court portraitist to Louis XV before going mad. De La Tour’s subject here is the flamboyant Madame de Pompadour, mistress of the king and called the “Godmother of the Rococo” for her generous patronage of the arts in mid-18th-century France. Remastered in 2016.
