This Flemish painter and draftsman produced a dizzying array of still lifes, flowers, and sporting genre scenes. Luyckx was a master in the Guild of St. Luke in Antwerp. A “vanitas” as seen here, is a symbolic form of the still-life, often moody, sometimes decrying the alleged pointlessness of existence.
