Gerard van Honthorst trained under Abraham Bloemaert, before leaving his native Utrecht to study in Italy, where he felt the influence of Caravaggio and developed a gift for painting subjects with heavenly illuminations. Honthorst had many noble and royal patrons, such as the Anglo-Dutch bluebloods who commissioned this double portrait in a mythological motif. A Mixed-Media painting.
