Vincent van Gogh moved from an appreciation of the classical to an absorption of the styles of the Impressionist movement. Van Gogh aspired for a formless experiential than the sensory snapshot, experimenting with paint, color, and broken facture to capture the mind’s re-interpretation of nature. His “Farmhouse” is an Expressionist impulse, with heavy paint, vibrancy, and bits of pointillism.
