Charles Bird King was a portrait artist known for his portrayals of significant Native American leaders and tribesmen. At age twenty he moved to London to study under the famous painter Benjamin West at the renowned Royal Academy. He eventually moved to Washington D.C. and earned a stellar reputation as an exemplary individual and artist.
