Frenchman Philippe Chaperon was a painter and theater set decorator. His most famous set design was for the 1871 premiere of Verdi’s “Aida” at the Khedival Theater in Cairo, an opera set in ancient Egypt. Nine years later Chaperon recreated this design with a performance at the Palais Garnier, which he committed to watercolor. A Mixed-Media painting from Art Chateau.
