Italian Benedetto Luti produced oils on canvas and frescoes but was one of the first to create pastels as standalone works, not as preliminary studies for later paintings. This wonderful chalk and wash piece tells the tale of a miracle by the sainted Pope, who gave the envoy some dust from Rome where martyrs died, which later turned to blood. Remastered in 2018.
