Anglo-American artist Benjamin West, called “the American Raphael”, was born in the colony of Pennsylvania, but took up residence in London, becoming a member and finally President of the Royal Academy. This unusual likeness was an exotic version of the English out-of-doors portrait that often included animals such as horses or dogs. Remastered at our Studios in 2015.
