Neapolitan Rococo artist Pietro Capelli produced wonderful “capriccio”, architectural paintings of imagined buildings, city-scapes, and vistas. In this “Architectural Capriccio with a Statue of Hercules”, the artist has let his vision run free and conjured his vision of an elegant, familiar archaic setting where a statue of Heracles surveys all.
